WILDFIRE SITUATION, MANAGEMENT AND CURRENT SITUATION

As a result of the weather conditions in recent days, the situation with field and mountain wildfire eruption and spread risks has reached alarming proportions.

The most severe case was reported in the region of Peja - Accursed Mountains National Park, where all capacities of the state and the international presence in Kosovo, including KFOR, were deployed in order to keep the situation under control.

Until 02 July 2021, as per the 16.00 hrs. report, information received from the emergency communication system through the EOC 112 centers throughout the regions of Kosovo, there had been over 110 fires of different intensity and extent.

Whereas, as of 03 July 2021, at 12:00 hrs., according information received from the emergency communication system of the Emergency Management Agency, the situation is as follows:

PRISHTINA REGION:

A low intensity field fire was reported in the village of Kuzmin, Municipality of Fushë Kosova.

PRIZREN REGION:

A high intensity mountain fire was reported in the areas of Krushica and Bukosh villages, Municipality of Suhareka. The fire is spreading and the steep terrain is rendering the actions of the PFRUs and KSF Response Teams difficult, but they continue their best efforts to bring the fire under control. Today, we await the response to our request for air support from KFOR (as reported by the MIA OC).

PEJA REGION:

The fire, which had spread over the Rugova mountains several days earlier has now been localized, while final efforts are being made to bring it under control. The wildfires are still active, and we are awaiting for a response on air support (at around 14:00 hrs.) to be provided by KFOR (as reported by MIA OC). The wildfires are still ongoing at low intensity, in the northern part of the village Great Shtupeq, from Brodiqi Pass; the intervention is being carried out by 10 members of the PFRUs, as well as 10 members of the Kosovo Forest Agency.

GJILAN REGION:

A large number of fires have been reported in the Gjilan Region in the last 24 hours (about 72), mainly field fires which have been managed and localized. The only remaining fire that is active but under control is a mountain fire in Vernez, Viti municipality;

MITROVICA SOUTH AND NORTH:

A low intensity mountain fire was reported in Zubin Potok municipality, where the fire had also engulfed the properties of Mr. Vlasnik Milenko, causing significant material damage. Meanwhile yesterday, on 02.08.2021, according to a report by the EOC 112 North Mitrovica, in the region of Kushtove and Bistrica e Shales, due to the terrain and intensity of the fire, air intervention capacities of KFOR were requested.
